Craft, Education, and a Fully Booked Out Month
February was a big month, not just behind the chair but also outside the shop. It was a month that involved teaching, sharing knowledge with the next generation of barbers, and continuing to refine the systems that guide the work I do every day.
Alongside that, it was also one of the busiest months I have had in terms of bookings. It was a strong reminder that consistency, discipline, and attention to detail are what build long term trust with clients.
Here is a look at what February looked like.
Guest Presentation CIT Canberra
On the 12th of February I was invited by CIT to deliver a guest presentation to their barbering students.
The session ran for three and a half hours and focused on the journey that led me to where I am today in the industry. I shared the lessons I have learned over the years and the systems that I rely on every day when working with clients.
We spoke about consultation, communication, and the level of detail that goes into every haircut. These are the things that clients might not always see on the surface, but they are the foundations that create consistency and quality in the chair.
It was a great opportunity to give back to the industry and spend time with students who are just starting their careers. Seeing that level of enthusiasm reminded me of why I take the craft seriously every single day.
National Online Seminar
A few days later on the 16th of February I hosted an online seminar with five barbers from across Australia.
During this session we focused heavily on consultation and the importance of understanding exactly what a client wants before any haircut begins.
One of the highlights of the seminar happened when a new client arrived for their appointment during the call. With permission, I walked the group through the consultation process in real time so they could see how the framework works in a real shop environment.
The barbers were able to watch how the conversation unfolds, how expectations are clarified, and how decisions about the haircut are made before the clippers even touch the hair.
Moments like that show how important communication is in this industry. A strong consultation is often what separates a good haircut from a great one.
Fully Booked Out Month
While these education sessions were happening, the shop floor remained as busy as ever.
Across the entire month of February there were only three appointment spaces that went unfilled, and all three were the result of cancellations.
Aside from those, every other appointment slot was booked.
For me that level of demand always comes back to the same fundamentals. Consistency, attention to detail, and making sure every client who sits in the chair receives the same level of focus and care.
Teaching and sharing knowledge is something I enjoy, but the most important place for that experience to show up is always in the chair with my clients.
February was a strong reminder of how powerful those fundamentals can be.
