Building Community: My June in Barbering
This past month has been a whirlwind of teaching, learning, and connecting with some incredible people in the industry. From sharing the stage at Australia's premier hair event to working hands on with local barbers, June reminded me why I love what I do. Here's what stood out.
Teaching at the Australian Hair Festival
I was invited to demonstrate live cutting techniques for a packed theatre at the Australian Hair Festival in Sydney. Standing in front of such an engaged audience, I shared insights on consultation, precision, and the philosophy behind every cut. Alongside the demonstration, I was also invited to speak on a barber panel with other industry experts, where we discussed our journeys in the industry and what it takes to build a lasting career. It was a chance to motivate and inspire the next generation of barbers coming through, and to remind them that this craft rewards patience and genuine care for people. It was humbling to see so many barbers invested in elevating their craft. The energy in that room was something special, and I walked away energized by the community's commitment to excellence.
Workshops at The Locker Room
Back home in Canberra, I've been running a series of hands on education sessions at The Locker Room. Over four dedicated sessions, I've been working directly with their team on technique, client consultation, and building a stronger service offering. These intimate workshops have been rewarding because you get to see the lightbulb moments happen in real time..
Growing with BLAK
My partnership with BLAK, an Australian men's hair care brand, has been an exciting evolution. Collaborating on creative content and bringing their products into my daily practice feels authentic because I genuinely believe in what they're building. It's a partnership rooted in shared values around quality and craftsmanship.
What's Next
June was about investing in community and sharpening my own skills. Whether you're looking to refine your cut or explore what premium barbering feels like, I'd love to work with you.
